Located within a 30 Mile radius of Home Farm there are several Malt whisky distilleries, all eager to tempt you into sampling a wee dram of "uisge beatha" "the water of life". As Home Farm is located on the Black Isle, which is famed for its barley production (we are almost surrounded by barley fields) one of the main ingredients in a single malt, it's no wonder there is such a wide choice of distilleries to choose from. Our own village, Muir of Ord is home to the "Singleton" malt, produced in the Muir of Ord distillery which boasts an excellent visitor centre and museum, along with some impressive picture opportunities for its stills. A journey of an hour north takes you past several well known names, Dalmore, Teaninich, Glenmorangie, Balblair and Clynleash near Brora. For those prefering the lighter Speyside malts, the world famous malt whisky trail can be visited, with Dufftown the whisky capital of the world only an hour and a half away. Rome may have been built on seven hills but Dufftown was built on seven stills.
